چکیده

The quantitative anatomical characteristics of Quercus variabilis virgin cork grown in Korea were observed by scanning electron microscopy and compared with suber reproduction from Portugal to obtain basic data for further utilization domestic resources Korean industries. Q. showed a smaller growth ring width higher latecork percentage than cork. proportion cells lenticular channels suber, whereas sclereid dark-brown zones found only variabilis. frequency pentagonal the transverse radial sections was In tangential section, displayed lower heptagonal suber.Q. had cell width, lumen diameter, wall thickness, prism base edge area, total volume, solid volume fractional number per cm3 suber.

Notes on the biomass expansion factors of Quercus mongolica and Quercus variabilis forests in Korea

Biomass expansion factors, which convert timber volume (or dry weight) to biomass, are used for estimating the forest biomass and accounting for the carbon budget at a regional or national scale. We estimated the biomass conversion and expansion factors (BCEF), biomass expansion factors (BEF), root to shoot ratio (R), and ecosystem biomass expansion factor (EBEF) for Quercus mongolica Fisch. an...

Deciphering cork formation in Quercus suber

The family of Fagaceae, comprises about 900 species, among them the best-known group of this family is the oaks, genus Quercus, that are commonly used as timber or for cork production. Cork is produced by Q. suber, an evergreen oak with major economic and environmental importance for Mediterranean region, in particular for Portugal that is the leading producer of this material. Besides, the eco...

Effects of cadmium on cork oak (Quercus suber L.) plants grown in hydroponics.

Cork oak (Quercus suber L.) is an autochthonous tree species that is being used for reforestation in heavy-metal-contaminated areas in Spain. A hydroponics experiment was carried out to characterize the effects of Cd on several morphological and physiological parameters in this species, including shoot length, nutrient concentrations and allocation in different organs, leaf pigment concentratio...

Phylogeographical variation of chloroplast DNA in cork oak (Quercus suber).

BACKGROUND AND AIMS In the last decades, the geographical location of the centre of origin of Quercus suber (cork oak), a strictly western Mediterranean oak species, has been the subject of controversy. METHODS RFLP variation over the whole chloroplast DNA molecule and PCR-RFLPs over seven specific cpDNA fragments were analysed phylogeographically to reconstruct the evolutionary history of co...
